Maybe the answer isn't working harder.
Small businesses and nonprofits rarely struggle because they lack passion or ideas. More often, they're slowed by hidden bottlenecks, outdated systems, or stories that no longer reflect who they've become.
Maybe Consulting™ helps organizations uncover what's getting in the way—and build thoughtful solutions that create space for what's next.
Cache Owens-Velasquez, PhD | Founder & Principal
Maybe Consulting is named after my dog, Maybe. Or, maybe more accurately, my dog is named after a way of thinking.
When I adopted her, I couldn't find a name that fit. We tried several. Each one seemed promising until it didn't. I kept saying, "Maybe this is the one... maybe not." Somewhere in that messy, iterative process, I realized the answer had been there all along. Her name wasn't Plum or Hilda or Rory. It was Maybe.
That experience has stayed with me. The best ideas rarely appear fully formed. They emerge through curiosity, experimentation, and the willingness to change course when something doesn't feel quite right. That's the spirit behind Maybe Consulting and the way I approach every challenge: not by chasing the first answer, but by staying curious long enough to discover the right one.
Why Maybe?
Your organization has evolved, but your systems, story, and strategy haven't fully caught up.
Growth is exciting. It also creates complexity. The approaches that got you here aren't always the ones that will take you where you want to go next.
Maybe you're experiencing some of this:
Your marketing still reflects who you were two years ago, not who you've become.
You know your work changes lives, but your story doesn't yet create the emotional connection you want people to feel.
Your to-do list never gets shorter. Everything feels important, and nothing feels clearly next.
You have ideas that could move your organization forward, but they stay on the back burner because there's never enough time.
Every decision still seems to come back to you.
Your team is working hard, but you're constantly reacting instead of moving intentionally.
You know your organization is capable of more, but you just can't see the clearest path from where you are to where you want to be.
You're an expert in your field, not necessarily in operations, strategy, communications, or organizational growth. And you shouldn't have to be.
Everything is connected.
What if the first answer isn't the whole answer?
Maybe the challenge is marketing. Or hiring. Or growth. Or community trust.
Or maybe those are simply where the symptoms appear.
Whether you're trying to reach more people, strengthen your team, improve operations, clarify your strategy, or deepen community relationships, the same principle applies: the strongest solutions come from understanding the whole system.
The work of Maybe is simple:
Stay curious long enough to see what others might miss.
Because the challenge that brings us together isn't always the challenge we end up solving.
Maybe, just maybe...
Maybe, just maybe...

Not sure where to begin?
That's okay.
The challenge that brings us together isn't always the challenge we end up solving.
Let's start with curiosity, ask better questions, and discover what's possible together.
Why Maybe…
I've never fit neatly into one box.
Throughout my career, I've led organizations, built brands, facilitated community conversations, raised millions of dollars, managed complex initiatives, conducted research, and helped teams navigate big decisions. At first glance, those experiences might seem unrelated. To me, they've always been connected.
Working across disciplines has taught me to look for patterns instead of quick fixes, ask better questions before jumping to answers, and see opportunities that are easy to miss when you're deep in the day-to-day.
It's also why I started Maybe. The most meaningful work rarely fits into a single job title, department, or area of expertise. Neither do the strongest solutions.

What You Can Expect
-
I won't rush to solutions. We'll explore the challenge from multiple angles before deciding where to focus.
-
I look for patterns across strategy, systems, storytelling, operations, and community because the strongest solutions rarely live in just one place.
-
Organizations don't change. People do. I approach every project with curiosity, empathy, and a commitment to building solutions that work for the people most affected by them.
-
The best ideas don't always come from the loudest voices or the people with the most positional power. I create space for overlooked perspectives, ask who is missing from the conversation, and design strategies that are thoughtful, inclusive, and built to last.
